This thesis examines the way in which the independent scene developed in French-speaking Switzerland and how, from then on, cantonal and communal cultural policies were led to define themselves more precisely and to deploy new support instruments that did not exist at the time, such as support for the artistic production for independent companies. The tensions between established culture and alternative culture, caught between the desire to be recognised and the desire to overturn established norms, also became apparent.
